Drug Abuse Treatment ModelUnder the principle of that therapy is prior to punishment, the center integrates psychology, social work and criminology and cooperates with social resources to set up Sindian Drug Abuse Treatment Model which includes new inmate investigation and orientation, rehabilitation and follow-up guidance.

New inmate investigation and orientation

The clinical psychologists and social workers will make a serial assessment of new inmates for future treatment plans. The counselors will give the orientation to inmates for helping them adjusting to the environment.

Rehabilitation

Besides of general treatment courses, the center also holds skill training and psychosocial drug abuse treatment to inmates.

General treatment coursesThe treatment period is divided into three phases including adaptation, psychological guidance and social adaptation phase. The courses will be held according to the treatment focus of each phase and the inmates’ need. The drug-addicted prisoners of Sindian Branch and inmates receiving rehabilitation penalty will also take related drug abuse treatment courses. The general courses include 11 categories like religion education, career planning, hygiene education, law education etc. The teachers come from religious groups, social service groups, medical groups, and other scholars, specialists and professionals in society.

Skill training programsThe center invites Sindian, Sanchong and Banciao Employment Services Station, as well as Northern Training Center, Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training, to deliver the employment courses and cooperates with Shi-Lin, Taipei and Banciao Branch, Taiwan After-care Association, to hold a variety of short-term skill training courses which include Gardening, Modern Light Meal, Coffee and Drink, Healthy Vegetarian Diet, Chinese Food Made from Wheat, Car Beauty, Funeral Services, Bicycle Repair, Arts and Calligraphy.

Psychosocial drug abuse treatment programAfter the investigation and a serial of assessment, the center will make the individualized and systematical treatment plans for the inmates, which are implemented by clinical psychologists, social workers, counseling psychologists and psychiatrists in and outside the center. Each inmate will receive individual counseling 6 times, group counseling 20 to 24 times before released.

Recreation and enlightenmentTo instruct the inmates through play, cultivate their mind, train their bodies and improve their honors, the center also holds:

Literature, arts and recreation activity contests: The center holds one kind of contest monthly, such as singing, a tug of war, board game, ball game, dance and calligraphy etc.

Family’s support program: The center holds call-family activity and family visiting with direct contact on Chinese New Year’s Day, Mother’s day and Mid-Autumn Festival and family education every season to strengthen the connection between inmates and their family.

Gala celebration and lecture: The center holds the gala celebration and lectures irregularly to have joys with inmates and open their mind.

Book Fair: The center holds the book fair regularly to encourage inmates to read.

Follow-up Guidance

For supporting the inmates back to society successfully, the center is devoted to the follow-up and the connection of guidance in and outside the center.

Release orientation and guidanceBefore the inmates are released, social workers will inform them of the related social resources and invite the counselors of After-care Association and Drug Damage Prevention Center to counsel them individually for building up the relationship between the counselors and the inmates as soon as possible.

Follow-up guidanceAfter the inmates are released, the center will pass their related information to the local police and follow them up at least by 3 calls in 6 months for providing concern and assistance.
